Art Festival 2025] Duet by Kyoto City University of Arts Faculty of Music [Sunday, September 28, 2025

To express our gratitude for your patronage, we will hold the Art Festival in CHOURAKUKAN on September 28, 2025.
This year's theme is "Japanese and Western in Kyoto.
We will be presenting a variety of events that shed light on the architecture, foodstuffs, and art that live and breathe in Kyoto.

A duet with clarinet and violin by the Kyoto City University of Arts Music Department using the piano Bösendorfer in the lobby on the first floor of the main building will echo throughout the museum.

Duet by Kyoto City University of Arts Faculty of Music

         Clarinet and Piano Duet Performance 15:00-16:30 (with intermission)
  • Venue: Lobby, 1st floor, Honkan
  • The tickets are free to all visitors with an admission ticket or a ticket for the Art Festival in CHOURAKUKAN 2025 event.
    The lobby of the main building has a vaulted structure that allows sound to resonate easily, so performances can be enjoyed freely within the building.

Performer Profile

   Violin: Butan Harada
First Prize and Chancellor's Prize at the 21st Nagae Cup International Music Competition. First Prize at the 1st Grande École Internationale de Musique de la Grande École. 2nd Prize and the Italian Music Festival Prize at the 14th Cecilia International Music Competition. In 2024, he attended the Talent Summer Courses & Festival in Brescia, Italy, where he was selected to perform at the 12th Kyoto Horikawa Music High School Graduation Concert. In 2024, she attended the Talent Summer Courses & Festival in Brescia (Italy), where she was selected to perform as a soloist with the Master Orchestra. He was concertmaster of the 13th Kansai Music College Orchestra Festival. Studied under Riko Murase and Reiko Otani. After graduating from Kyoto Horikawa Music High School, she is currently a senior at Kyoto City University of Arts.
   Piano Naoo Hayama
Born in Takarazuka City, Japan, she began playing the piano at the age of three. Studied piano under Miho Yamamoto, Reiko Kobayashi, Chiharu Sakai, Yuko Mifune, Yuka Imamine, Giuseppe Mariotti, Christopher Hinterhuber, and Koga Higashiyama for two pianos. Studied chamber music under Tetsu Murakami. Graduated from Kyoto Horikawa Music High School. Performed in the 12th graduation concert. Currently enrolled as a fourth-year student at Kyoto City University of Arts, School of Music, majoring in piano. She won first prize in the high school division of the 20th Takarazuka Vega Student Piano Competition, and was also awarded the Takarazuka Musicians' Federation Special Prize and the Sanpo Music Prize. She won first prize in the high school division of the Ashiya Music Competition in the piano section. She won the Bronze Prize in the National Competition of the 26th Chopin International Piano Competition in ASIA in the university student division and was selected for the Asian Competition.
   Clarinet Mahite Morishita
Born in 2003 in Kyoto. Started playing clarinet at the age of 12 in the brass band club at junior high school. After graduating from Ritsumeikan High School, he is currently a fourth-year student at Kyoto City University of Arts, Department of Music, majoring in wind and percussion. He won first prize in the wind instrument division of the high school section of the 6th Toyonaka Music Competition. He won the Excellence Prize at the 41st All Japan Junior Classical Music Competition, Osaka 1, and the Encouragement Prize at the National Competition of the same competition. He received the Nagaokakyo City Cultural Award for Cultural Encouragement in 2021. Studied clarinet under Tomoyoshi Kusano, Naoko Kotaniguchi, and Nobuo Brooks Tone. He has studied chamber music under Yoshimi Oshima, Nozomi Ueda, Takahiro Kase, and Nobuo Brooks Tone.
   Piano Megumi Ishikawa
Born in 2003 in Osaka. After studying piano at Souai High School of Music, she is currently a fourth-year student at Kyoto City University of Arts, Department of Music, majoring in piano. She won the Gold Prize in the University Student and General Division of the 5th Kyoto International Music Competition, as well as the Mayor of Kyoto Award. He won the 2nd Prize in the University Piano Division of the 6th Japan Music Competition and the Virtuoso Prize. 2nd Prize in the University Student Division of the 14th Qualia Music Competition. Performed in the 38th Piano Festival and the 2025 Piano Recital at the University. She has studied under Makiko Higashii, Hiromi Koide, Hiroko Hoshi, Hiroyuki Abe, and Ryoma Takagi.
