Classical afternoon tea in the English tradition at Choraku-kan.
The three-tiered tea stand features savory teafoods, including a royal cucumber sandwich in the lower tier, and scones in the middle tier,
The upper tier is lined with a beautiful array of sweets that complement the flavor of the tea.
In 19th century England, where afternoon tea was born, greenhouse-grown cucumbers were considered a symbol of wealth, and cucumber sandwiches were an essential part of aristocratic social gatherings.
The scones are served with a generous dollop of clotted cream and jam, as has been the English way since those days.
This elegant tea culture began in the drawing rooms where the ladies of the aristocracy gathered.
