Yellow brick [entrance]

Chorakukan is a three-story Western-style brick building.
Each level of the exterior wall is separated by a serpentine wall with a loose curved pattern. The first floor is finished in stone, while the second and third floors are lined with yellow tiles from Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture.
Corner stones are placed in the corners to tighten the walls, while yellow bricks add a gentle touch of color.

At that time, red was the most common color for bricks in Japan, and yellow bricks were very rare.
The former Imperial Hotel, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, used yellow bricks, also made in Tokoname, after advice from Kichihei Murai, who was a board member of the Imperial Hotel.
